Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Programme (SECP)
SECP: Business skills for social change
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
- Margaret Mead
The Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Programme (SECP) provides social leaders and innovators with the strategic, technical and business skills they need to create sustainable, scaleable, high impact organisations.
Who should attend?Social entrepreneurs, leaders and managers of social initiatives, as well as business people, CSI executives and government officials looking to better understand the emerging SE space.
Timeline The course consists of four modules, comprising of five days each. Modules run from Wednesday to Sunday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, and each module has two evening sessions. The next intake will begin coursework in March 2011.
Programme Content
While addressing strategic and conceptual issues, the course remains highly practical. Each module consists of:
Theory (reading and lectures)
Context (case studies and guest speakers, etc.)
Integration (syndicate work, assignments, and projects).
In order to assess learning, professors assign deliverables for each session in addition to an Action Learning Project to be completed over the duration of the course. These assignments are directly related to your own organisation and, when compiled, they will constitute your Portfolio of Learning. We also offer participants a faculty mentor in one area of choice.
AttendanceIn order to ensure the cohesion and calibre of the programme, it is very important that those who enrol are committed and engaged. Thus, full attendance is required. Urgent absences may be pre-approved, but anyone missing more than one day of class per module may not receive a certificate of completion.
FacultyWe have an excellent team of dynamic lecturers, from GIBS and elsewhere. All have substantial practical as well as academic experience and are excited to be involved in the emerging area of teaching social entrepreneurship.
Application ProcessApplications for the 2011 programme will be open from July 2010.
